Latest GMDSS Training News

August 2016

GMDSS Training has just completed a GOC for a new Radio Inspector making a total of two from the UK, two from Malta and one from Nigeria. The latest candidate had long experience of Sailor equipment and besides achieving a near 100% score in the exam outlined how to extend 5000 Series watch-keeping to scan for HF CRSs Routine DSC Calls in addition to MF 2177 KHz and the six emergency frequencies of the Watch receiver.

Most informative visits have been made to INMARSAT’s London HQ where we were briefed of the progress of Fleet Board Band to full GMDSS approval and the new L/Ka band Fleet Xpress service. Sat-C services were confirmed to continue for the foreseeable future while the SafetyNet service is to be enhanced as SafetyNet2 and duplicated on Fleet broadBand.’

GMDSS Training Dover, UK, GOC, ROC, LRC, SRC, RYA and MCA courses

We have just completed our best year for ROC courses and an increasing number of GOC candidates.

Our record of success has been maintained and bookings look very encouraging into the new year.

In the meantime we will shortly be trialling our new ICOM based MF/HF coast radio station equipment with a view to continuous 24 hr automatic operation’.

'GMDSS's Largest intake of students' and 'Snargate Radio reaches milestone'

‘Two noteworthy events have occurred late June and early July. First, the Dover training centre enrolled its greatest number of GMDSS students to date. Due to the numbers they were split into four groups spread over three weeks with two of the groups studying different qualifications, overlapping each other in the same week. Pleased to say, all candidates were successful and will be receiving their certificates from the awarding bodies shortly.

The second item of note is the success of a pilot trial of the MF/HF Coast Radio Station (SnargateRadio/MNC, MMSI 002320204). During the last week in June no less than 120 DSC HF test calls were logged and replied to during UK office hours, including one confirmed from Australia. The trial is now complete and it is planned that major alternations will be introduced to the facility in the near future – so watch this space!’
